Use PLG data to personalize email automations

It's too Complicated! Send PLG data to low touch automation. 😫

Yes, it is… here's how we did it anyway… 😅

We launched PLG in December 2022

We knew we needed to prepare to scale

We knew the key was setting up the data architecture

I thought in 2022, it shouldn't be hard to set up data pipelines

It's a pretty complicated process

We have the data warehouse

We were tracking some but not all* events

We started using an event tracker to add to our data warehouse

We tracked Users, Page Visits, Features, and anything submitted by the customer during onboarding

We presented this in a BI tool, so we can analyze usage, login

We also send these data into our CRM using Reverse ETL

We send the Users, Last Login, Activation Point, Plan Tier, Core usage: Integrations, etc…

We would use these data points to personalize our outreach in our Email Automation

Things to watch out for 🚨🚨🚨

  • Reverse ETL would not send data to Duplicated Contacts

  • Data warehouse can pause your auto-updates to the CRM

  • That would impact your downstream personalize email automation
